Yeshiva Edged by Baruch at Home, 69-63

NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team dropped a close home contest to the visiting Bearcats of Baruch, 69-63, late Saturday evening. The loss was Yeshiva's first on their home court, dropping them to 4-6 on the season. Baruch improved to 6-1.

Gil Bash led the scoring with 12 on 6-13 shooting. He pulled down 6 rebounds to go along with 3 assists. Chen Biron followed with 11 points. 5 other Maccabees scored 6 or more points. Omer Haim had a team high 8 rebounds and 7 assists, to go along with his 7 points.

The Maccabees were slow out of the gate, finding themselves down 8-0 after the first minutes. Their largest deficit of the night came at the 13:45 mark, where they found themselves trailing 20-9. However, the Macs chipped away methodically at the lead, until they found themselves tied with Baruch with 22 seconds in the half. Baruch's George Kunkel hit a jumper with 4 seconds left and got fouled, sending him to the line for a potential three point play. After missing the free throw, Bash rebounded and sent the ball ahead to Haim, who hit a running jumper in the paint to knot the score at 36 heading into the half.

The second half proved just as exciting as the first, as Yeshiva took their first lead of the game after a Chen Biron three pointer minutes into the half. The lead was short lived, however the Macs never trailed by more than 5 over the next 10 minutes. It looked as if Baruch was starting to pull away after they expanded their lead to 8 with just over 4 minutes to play, but Yeshiva cracked down and went on a 6-0 run to pull within 2 with 1:19 showing on the clock. Unfortunately, the Macs were held scoreless the rest of the way, and Baruch got the 69-63 win.

Leading the Bearcats was George Kunkel with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Chris Beauchamp followed with 15 points.

The Macs will play host to Mount Saint Mary on Monday at 8PM. They will then play host to St. Joseph's on Sunday at 2PM, before taking a break for finals and intersession.
