A solid effort for YU Men's Soccer during 3-0 loss to Mount Saint Mary

(Yonkers, NY) – Junior goalie Daniel Rosenthal (Panama City, Panama/IAE) stopped 17 out of 20 shots, and the YU defense enjoyed its finest performance of the 2008 season, but the Yeshiva University Men's Soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday night at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, New York. With the loss, YU is now 0-8 overall and 0-6 in Skyline Conference play.

The game was a tightly contested match-up for much of the first half as Rosenthal's 10 saves kept Mount Saint Mary off of the scoreboard, and the Yeshiva defense forced the visiting Blue Knights to take several outside and off-angle shots. However, late in the first half, and controversial play led to Mount Saint Mary's first goal at 43:08 to give the Blue Knights a 1-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw the Yeshiva offense come alive as the Maccabees enjoyed several scoring opportunities, but were unable to break through for the tying goal. Mount Saint Mary put the game away at 71:15 as Rosenthal's spectacular, diving save led to a rebound, and the Blue Knights chipped the loose ball into the open goal to make it 2-0. The final goal came at 85:58 on an outside shot to make it 3-0.

Aside from Rosenthal's heroics and a stellar night for the Yeshiva defense, sophomore Zachary Stern (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Torah Academy) and senior Arie Blum (Santiago, Chile/Ner Israel) were outstanding on the offensive end, combining for 10 shots, and four shots on goal.

Mount Saint Mary outshot Yeshiva 29-13 and had five corner kicks to Yeshiva's four.

The Maccabees have one more game prior to the holiday break as YU hosts Lehman College on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, New York.
