(Edgewater, NJ) - Freshman Zack Charles (New York, NY/Ramaz) turned in a stellar performance at #1 singles, falling 7-6, 5-7, 7-10, and the top two doubles teams for YU were equally impressive, but the Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team opened the 2009 season with a 9-0 loss to Hunter College on Thursday night at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, NJ.
Charles was spectacular, battling to the final points during his first career match, but YU was unable to do much better in singles play as the Maccabees combined to win only six games beyond Charles's efforts during singles competition. Junior Max Klein (Woodmere, NY/HAFTR) was also outstanding at #2 singles, losing the second set, 4-6.
In doubles action, the #1 team of Charles and Seth Nayowitz (Teaneck, NJ/TABC) battled during an 8-4 loss, and the #2 doubles team of Klein and Eliezer Stavsky (Teaneck, NJ/TABC) lost 8-3.
The Maccabees return to action on Sunday, March 15 when they travel to Farmingdale State for a 12:00 p.m. Skyline Conference match.
