Yeshiva stuns defending Skyline Conference Champs Mount Saint Mary in Men's Tennis

(Edgewater, NJ) - Five Maccabees notched singles win, giving Yeshiva its first win of the 2009 season, and the #3 doubles team of Seth Nayowitz (Teaneck, NJ/TABC) and Andrew Mezei (Riverdale, NY/MTA) enjoyed an 8-6 win as the Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team stunned defending Skyline Conference Champion Mount Saint Mary 6-3 on Thursday evening at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, NJ. With the win, Yeshiva is now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in Skyline Conference play.

Yeshiva clinched the match in singles play as freshman Zack Charles (New York, NY/Ramaz), junior Joseph Itkis (Newton, MA/Maimonides), and Mezei scored straight-set wins at #1, #2, and #5 singles, respectively. In addition, junior Max Klein (Woodmere, NY/HAFTR) and sophomore Benji Rosenberg (Vienna, Austria/ZPC) won in three sets at #2 singles and #4 singles, respectively.

In doubles play, Yeshiva dropped the first two matches, but the team of Nayowitz and Mezei were impressive at #3 doubles to make it a 6-3 match.

Yeshiva returns to action on Monday afternoon when they travel to York College for a 4:30 p.m. match.
