Charles, Itkis victorious but Men's Tennis falls 7-2 to St. Joseph's

(Patchogue, NY) - Freshman Zachary Charles (New York, NY/Ramaz) and junior Joseph Itkis (Newton, MA/Maimonides) were victorious in first and third singles, respectively, and two Maccabees took their singles matches to a third set, but the Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team fell 7-2 to Skyline Conference powerhouse St. Joseph's (LI) on Wednesday night at St. John the Baptist High School. With the loss, Yeshiva is now 2-4 overall and 1-2 in Skyline Conference play.

Charles survived a battle at #1 singles winning the first set 7-5, before falling 3-6 during the second set. The third set proved to be a thriller as Charles won 7-6, winning the tie-breaker 7-5. Itkis enjoyed perhaps his finest performance of the 2009 season, winning 6-3, 6-3 at #3 singles. Yeshiva, however, lost the remaining singles matches as both junior Max Klein (Woodmere, NY/HAFTR) and sophomore Benji Rosenberg (Vienna, Austria/ZPC) took their matches to a third set, ultimately losing.

In doubles play, St. Joseph's won all three rounds of doubles to claim the 7-2 victory.

Yeshiva returns to action on Sunday, March 29 when the Maccabees host Purchase College at 5:00 p.m. at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, NJ.
