(Edgewater, NJ) - For the second consecutive day, the Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team clinched a victory by scoring five singles wins, this time winning every flight but #2 singles as Yeshiva downed Mount Saint Vincent 8-1 on Monday night at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, NJ. With the win, YU is now 4-4 overall and 3-2 in Skyline Conference play.
Yeshiva's five singles victories were in straight sets as freshman Zachary Charles (New York, NY/Ramaz) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at #1 singles, junior Joseph Itkis (Newton, MA/Maimonides) won 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles, sophomore Seth Nayowitz (Teaneck, NJ/TABC) scored a 6-0, 6-4 win at #4 singles, senior Moshe Neiman (Teaneck, NJ/Ramaz) won 6-1, 6-4 at #5 singles, and senior Eli Stavsky (Teaneck, NJ/TABC) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at #6 singles.
Clinching the match during singles play only motivated YU even further as the Maccabees swept doubles play for the first time this season. Charles and Nayowitz won 8-3 at #1 doubles, while Klein and Itkis were 8-2 winners at #2 doubles, and Neiman and Stavsky won 8-0 at #3 doubles.
The Maccabees return to action on Thursday even when YU travels to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) for a 6:00 p.m. match. The match will be played at the National Tennis Center.
