Yeshiva holds off St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 5-4 in Men's Tennis

(Queens, NY) - Three Maccabees scored two wins apiece and the YU top-two doubles teams earned hard-fought victories as the Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team won its fourth straight match, 5-4 over a pesky St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) team at the National Tennis Center in Queens, NY. With the win, Yeshiva is now 5-4 and has broken .500 for the first time this season.

The match was even 3-3 after singles play as junior Joseph Itkis (Newton, MA/Maimonides) competed at #1 singles for the first time this season and took away a 6-3, 6-3 win. Also victorious in straight sets for YU were senior Moshe Neiman (Teaneck, NJ/Ramaz), who won 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles, and senior Eli Stavsky (Teaneck, NJ/TABC), who was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at #4 singles.

With the match even heading into doubles play, it took Yeshiva's best effort to take home their third straight win. Itkis and Neiman were 8-5 winners at #1 doubles, and Stavsky and sophomore Seth Nayowitz (Teaneck, NJ/TABC) won 8-4 at #2 doubles to clinch the match.

Yeshiva returns to action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when YU hosts Polytechnic Institute of NYU at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, NJ.
