(Patchogue, NY) - The Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team closed the 2009 season with a 5-0 loss to St. Joseph's (LI) on Wednesday night at St. Joseph's College. The semifinal match, Yeshiva's first trip to the Skyline Conference playoffs since advancing to the championship round in 2007, marked the end of Yeshiva's 2009 campaign as the Maccabees closed the year with a 6-6 overall record.
The Golden Eagles took a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play, with the closest match coming at #2 doubles where the team of Max Klein (Woodmere, NY/HAFTR) and Joseph Itkis (Newton, MA/Maimonides) fell 8-4. St. Joseph's won #1 and #3 doubles, 8-1 and 8-2, respectively.
In singles play, although Yeshiva battled in several matches, wins by the Golden Eagles at #2 and #6 singles gave St. Joseph's the requisite five wins to advance, so the remainder of the singles matches were not completed.
With their renaissance season now complete, the Maccabees look forward to a 2010 season when only three seniors will graduate from this year's team.
