(New Rochelle, NY) - Four Maccabees scored in double figures, including sophomore Lauren Kempin (Fairlawn, NJ/Frisch), who notched a double-double as Yeshiva University Women's Basketball team evened its record at 1-1 with a 63-16 win over the College of New Rochelle on Thursday night at the College of New Rochelle. The game between Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) rivals was a non-conference match-up. The two teams will meet on Jan. 24 at Yeshiva for their conference game.
Playing without two starters did not phase the Maccabees as YU opened the game on a 25-1 run that encompassed all but 7:27 of the first half. A tremendous defensive effort by the Maccabees saw YU allow only seven points during the first half of play, and Yeshiva led 30-7 at the break.
The second half saw much of the same as the closest CNR came to catching YU was a three-point play that made it 36-14 with 13:42 to play. However, from there, Yeshiva finished the game on a 27-2 run for a big win as seven Maccabees scored at least five points.
Kempin led the way with 11 points, 10 rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals for the second double-double of her career. Also for the Maccabees, junior Jaclyn Ramras (Lawrence, NY/SKA) scored 11 points, and added six rebounds and six steals. Sophomore Alyssa Muckley (Boca Raton, FL/Weinbaum Yeshiva) chipped in 10 points, while senior Annie Montal (Suffern, NY/WHHS) added 10 points, four assists, and five steals. Also for Yeshiva, junior Libby Lapson (Chicago, IL/ICJA) had another solid game with five points, five rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
Yeshiva returns home on Sunday, Nov. 23 when they host Bard College for a 2:00 p.m. Skyline Conference game. The game will take place at Baruch College.
