(New York, NY) - Sophomores Shir Fuchs (Herzeliya, Israel/Hayovel) and Renee Ashkenazi (Deal, NJ/Hillel Yeshiva) combined for 12 points and nine rebounds, but the Yeshiva University Women's Basketball team lost their fourth straight game, 75-27 to Skyline Conference powerhouse Mount Saint Mary on Thursday night at Baruch College. With the loss, YU is now 3-21 overall and 0-17 in Skyline Conference play.
As seniors Tova Laufer (New York, NY/Ramaz) and Elana Kastzl (Miami, FL/WYHS) were honored for their outstanding careers in the Yeshiva University uniform, the Maccabees struggled against the top team in the Skyline Conference. Mount Saint Mary opened the game on a 15-0 run and never looked back, closing the opening half on an 18-2 run to take a 33-7 lead into the break. Yeshiva played a better second half as they were outscored 42-20 during the stretch.
Fuchs scored nine points and added two rebounds, while Ashkenazi chipped in seven rebounds.
Overall, Yeshiva shot 23%, compared to Mount Saint Mary's 39%, but Yeshiva was able to battle inside as the Blue Knights finished with a 43-42 rebounding edge. However, Mount Saint Mary won the game by forcing 39 Yeshiva turnovers, and the Blue Knights converted 18 free throws, while Yeshiva went 4 for 5 from the line.
The Maccabees travel to Bard College on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. game that will mark Yeshiva's season finale.
