(New York, NY) - Junior Lauren Kempin (Fairlawn, NJ/Frisch) and senior Tova Laufer (New York, NY/Ramaz) each grabbed 10 rebounds, and the duo combined for 15 points and seven blocked shots, but the Yeshiva University Women's Basketball team lost its eighth straight game, 84-30 to Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday night at Baruch College. With the loss, Yeshiva is now 2-18 overall and 0-15 in Skyline Conference play.
Mount Saint Vincent blew the game open early as after consecutive baskets by Laufer and Kempin to open the game, the Dolphins responded with an 18-2 run to make it 20-6 with 11:25 to play in the first half. While Yeshiva battled for much of the remainder of the opening stanza, the Maccabees still trailed 43-21 at halftime.
Any hope of a Yeshiva comeback during the second half was dashed immediately as Mount Saint Vincent opened the half on a 24-0 run, and led 67-21 with 12:25 to play in the game. While Yeshiva would slow the Dolphins down from that point, the Maccabees managed only nine second half points en route to a 54-point loss.
While Mount Saint Vincent only held a 42-41 rebounding edge, the Dolphins outshot YU 45%-25%, and Yeshiva committed 38 turnovers, compared to 12 for MSV.
Kempin added eight points and three blocked shots to her 10 rebounds, while Laufer scored seven points and added two blocked shots.
Yeshiva returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 12 when the Maccabees host the College of New Rochelle for the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Quarterfinals. The game begins at 8:30 p.m. and will be played at Baruch College.
