Men’s Soccer Scores Two Early Goals to Grab Shutout Victory Over Lehman College

Mark Rocklin

NEW YORK, NY – The Yeshiva Men's Soccer team scored goals in the 8th and 17th minutes to grab an early lead.  The defense took over after that and shut out the Lehman Lightning to post the season's first victory.  Joseph Itkis (Newton, MA/Maimonides) and Aryeh Rosenberg (Antwerp, Belgium/Jesode Hatora) scored for the Maccabees (1-1) Lehman College fell to 0-2 on the season.

Yeshiva's goal 8:53 into the game by Joseph Itkis proved to be the game winner, despite being such an early score.  The Maccabees turned in a brilliant defensive effort to retain the lead, forcing the Lightning offsides 18 times and frustrating them into 4 yellow cards.  Mark Rocklin (Rochester, NY/Halb) stopped all 9 shots that were on goal, grabbing the complete game shut-out.  Aryeh Rosenberg added an insurance goal at 17:58 to preserve the shutout victory.

The Maccabees will take the field again on Sunday, against conference opponent Bard College.  The game will be part of a men's-women's double header that begins at 4PM for the women and 6PM for the men.
