NEW YORK, NY – The Women's Tennis team opened their season against Farmingdale State Thursday evening and lost by a narrow 5-4 margin. The difference came in doubles play, where Farmingdale took the 1st and 2nd victory, while Yeshiva grabbed the third doubles win. Each team won three singles matches.
In the second doubles play, Estee Wertenheil (Engelwood, NJ/Frisch) and Esti Reichman (Los Angeles, CA /YULA) teamed up and nearly grabbed the victory, but ended up dropping the game 8-5. Lena Michels (Milwaukee, WI/Torah Academy of Milwaukee) and Ariella Kaplan (Roslyn, NY/North Shore) fought hard in third doubles, and won 9-8 (5-0).
In singles play, Davina Mavtady (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck) took the #1 singles match to three games, but ultimately lost 6-0, 3-6, 6-1. Stephanie Kimmel (Allentown, PA/YU Flatbush) grabbed the #3 singles win (6-2, 6-2) and Estee Wertenheil won the #4 singles 6-3, 6-2. Lena Michels was Yeshiva's third singles winner, grabbing a 6-3, 6-3 #5 singles victory.
The tennis team will be back on the court Sunday, September 6th, traveling to Sage College for another Skyline competition. The match is scheduled to begin at 1PM in Troy, NY.
