Women’s Basketball Opens Second Half of Season with Road Loss to Sage

NEW YORK, NY – Despite scoring the game's first basket (a three pointer from Avigail Varnai), the women's basketball team dropped their Skyline Conference road game to Sage College 78-34 in Albany, NY. The Maccabees fell to 2-11 (0-9) while the Gators improved 6-8 (4-5).

After Avigail Varnai's opening three pointer, The Maccabees missed their next 5 shots and the Gators opened a 13 point lead after a 16-0 run. The lead would swell to as much as 32 before the Macs closed the half scoring the last 6 of 8 points. The score was 44-16 at the half.

Only 7 players made the trip to Albany, each seeing 20 minutes or more on the court. Jaclyn Ramras led the team with 14 points in 38 minutes played, including an impressive 7-10 from the free throw line. Varnai finished the game with 8 points and 7 rebounds, followed by Shir Fuchs with 6 points.

Up next for the Maccabees will be Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday at 8PM. The game has been moved to Baruch College. Finishing out the three game week will be Albany Pharmacy, also at Baruch College, on Sunday at 1PM.
