Men’s Soccer Gets Season’s First Win with Victory Over Sarah Lawrence 2-1 in Overtime

Stern scored twice including the game winner
NEW YORK, NY – The men's soccer team picked up the season's first win, after a penalty kick in the 94th minute found the back of the net off the foot of Zachary Stern. The Maccabees scored the game's first goal but Sarah Lawrence tied it in the second half to force the extra stanza. The Maccabees are now 1-6-1 on the season.

Yeshiva's first goal came from Zachary Stern in the 10th minute. Neither team would score the rest of the first half, giving Yeshiva a lead at the midway point for the second straight week.

Sarah Lawrence tied the game only 3 minutes into the second half, and the teams would pick up their defense and not allow another goal in the half. With the score tied at one, ten minutes were added to the game for the fist overtime.

The Maccabees wasted no time in the period and were presented with a penalty kick opportunity 4 minutes into the overtime. Zach Stern lined it up and sent it to the back of the net to give the Macs the victory. The goal was his team-leading 6th goal of the season, and his second multi-goal game of the season, and third straight game with a score.

Mark Rocklin was in goal for the whole 94 minutes of the game, stopping 6 shots. The Macs forced Sarah Lawrence offsides on 12 occasions.

Yeshiva will look for their second straight win on Tuesday evening, when they travel to Gaelic Park to play Mount Saint Vincent. The game is scheduled for an 8:30PM start.
