Box Score

NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with a home conference game against Purchase College, but was unable to come back from the 5-point halftime deficit and lost the game 61-48. This was also the first game for the Panthers.

The teams traded the lead back and forth in the early going, and Yeshiva held a 7-6 advantage after the first 4 minutes of play. That would be the last lead for Yeshiva, as Purchase scored the next 11 points to open up to a 17-7 lead. Not giving up, the Maccabees fought back and pulled to within 2 after Omer Haim hit a three-pointer with 2:31 on the clock, but the Panthers would end the half with a 28-23 advantage.

Purchase pushed their lead to 10 in the opening minutes of the second half, but Yeshiva kept it close and pulled within 5 at the 7 minute mark after a 7-2 run. Gil Bash scored 4 of those points on 2 free-throws and a layup. The Maccabees were unable to get any closer, as Purchase went on a 14-4 run to put the game out of reach.

Dovie Hoffman finished the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while recording 3 steals and 2 assists. He was the only Maccabee to record double digit rebounds. Chen Biron had 11 points on 3-7 shooting from long distance. Haim and Bash each recorded 6 points for Yeshiva.

Yeshiva will host CCNY on Thursday at 8PM in the Max Stern Athletic Center. CCNY was a 72-69 winner over Mitchell College in their season opener on Monday.
