NEW YORK, NY – The women's basketball team completed their first half of the season Wednesday night, with a 57-38 home loss to the Knights from Berkeley. The loss leaves the Macs at 1-13 (0-2 HVWAC) while the Knights improved to 2-8 (1-0 HVWAC).

Yeshiva's only lead came at the 8:23 mark after Lauren Kempin hit a jumper in the paint for the 11-9 edge. At that point, the Knights went on a 14-2 run to open a 10 point lead which they would give back very little of. Avigail Varnai hit a three pointer which cut the lead to 7, but the Macs were unable to score for the rest of the half and went into the locker room down 28-16.

The Knights allowed the Macs to cut the deficit to single digits only once for the rest of the game, early in the second half. Berkeley led by as much as 22 before eventually taking the game by 19 points, 57-38.

Shir Fuchs led the Macs with 13 points and 2 blocked shots, playing all but one minute. Avigail Varnai had 10 points and 3 assists. Kempin recorded a team high 10 rebounds. Naomi Gofine had 9 points and 8 rebounds on 3-11 shooting.

The Lady Macs have a much needed break until January 27th, when they host Purchase College at 8PM at Baruch College.
