Men’s Basketball Wins Behind Career High 18 From Bash

Bash scored a career high 18 points Monday night
NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team improved to 2-7 (2-4) with last night's 62-57 win on the road at NYU-Polytechnic. Three Maccabees scored in double figures, with Gil Bash leading the way with 18. NYU-Poly is still winless at 0-7 (0-4).

Yeshiva only trailed for 67 seconds combined in the game, taking the lead at the 17:41 mark in the first half and trailing briefly by 1 at 11:11. The first half featured three tied scores and ended with Yeshiva ahead 32-27 after leading by 6 in the closing minutes.

Although Yeshiva's lead was erased after the first 6 minutes of the second half, Chen Biron jumpstarted the offense with two consecutive long range shots that sparked a 15-4 run capped by a Gil Bash jumper to extend the lead back to 11. The Bluejays chipped away at the lead and pulled even with 2:05 remaining, but the Macs defense would hold Poly to only 2 more points while the offense scored 7. Each team scored 30 points in the half, making the first half difference of 5 the final margin.

Gil Bash came off the bench and scored a career high 18 points in 21 minutes, as the game's high scorer. He was 7-10 from the field and perfect from long range (1-1) and the free throw line (3-3). Chen Biron added 15 and Dovie Hoffman followed with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Yoni Eckmann pulled down 8 rebounds as well.

Both teams shot a shade under 41% from the field, but Yeshiva's 77% to 39% edge at the free throw line made a big difference. The Maccabees attempted 26 foul shots and made 20, compared to Poly's 13 attempts and 5 makes.

Yeshiva will play their final home game of the semester on Thursday against Sage College. The game will begin at 8PM.
