NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team was denied a perfect 3-win week by the visiting Sage Gators Sunday afternoon. For the second time this season, Sage got the best of Yeshiva, this time winning 79-67. The Macs fell to 9-11 (8-8) while Sage improved to 6-14 (5-11).
Three Yeshiva players scored in double figures, with
Jeremy Pressman leading the way with 17, shooting a perfect 7-7 from the line.
Chen Biron added 16, making 4 three-pointers, and
Daniel Somech scored 12 and pulled down a team high 8 rebounds. Somech started the game in place of
Martin Leibovich, who was sidelined with an injury.
Omer Haim had 10 assists and 7 points.
The Gators took control of the game right from the start, never trailing or finding themselves tied. Their 61% shooting from the field in the first half helped them to a 36-28 edge going into the locker room, and free throws down the stretch helped them outscore the Macs 43-39 in the final half. Marcus Hunter had a big game for the Gators, with 25 points in 37 minutes. He was 13-16 from the line.
Down by 17 with 12:15 to play, the Macs never gave up and chipped away until they found themselves down only 3 at the 3:47 mark. But that would be as close as they could get as the Gators controlled the clock and the ball the rest of the way. Sage's final 13 points in the game came from the free throw line.
Yeshiva will play their final game of the 4-game home stretch on Tuesday against Purchase at 8PM. The Macs will be on the road for the next 3 before closing the regular season at home on February 21st.
