Men’s Tennis Falls Just Short of Victory over Conference Opponent Purchase

Itkis won 2nd singles 6-3, 1-6, 6-4
NEW YORK, NY – The men's tennis team was on the road at Purchase Sunday afternoon and came one victory shy of a conference win, losing 5-4. The loss leaves Yeshiva at 0-3 (0-2) on the season.

Purchase started the afternoon winning the three doubles matches pretty easily, 8-3, 8-5, 8-4. Down early 3-0, the Maccabees didn't let that get to them as they took 4 of the first 5 doubles to tie the match at 4 with 5th singles still playing. The final match went all 3 sets but the Macs ended up dropping that and the match 5-4.

Zach Charles took care of his first singles opponent quickly, winning 6-1, 6-1. Joseph Itkis played 2nd singles and won 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Seth Nayowitz dropped his third singles match 4-6, 1-6 but Ephraim Liederman followed with a 4th singles win 7-6(7-3), 7-5. Sam Grossman fell in 5th singles 3-6, 7-6(7-3), 7-5 while Etan Slomovic defeated his 6th singles opponent 6-1, 6-1.

Rain could be a factor in the Macs next game at York College, but the game is currently as scheduled for 3:30PM. The team has a scheduled match against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Wednesday beginning at 7PM at the Tennis Center in Flushing.
