NEW YORK, NY – The men's tennis team defeated Mount Saint Mary on the road Tuesday night to improve to 3-3 (2-2) in their third straight win. After winning all three doubles games, the Macs won 5 of 6 singles matches, three of which were won in a tiebreaking set. The Knights fell to 3-5 (0-3).
Zach Charles and
Joseph Itkis paired up to win first doubles 8-0.
Seth Nayowitz and
Sam Klein took second doubles 8-5, while Ephraim Liederman and
Eddie Ashkenazie took third doubles 8-4.
In singles play, Charles made quick work of his opponent, winning 6-0, 6-1. Finishing right after him in similar fashion was Liederman, winning sixth singles 6-0, 6-0. Those wins gave Yeshiva the a 5-0 advantage and a guaranteed win. After Klein dropped his third singles effort 6-2, 6-2, it looked as if MSM was on a roll. 2nd (Itkis), 4th (Nayowitz), and 5th (
Adam Weiss) singles players for Yeshiva had dropped their first sets. But each player rebounded to take the second set and force a tiebreaker. All three won the tiebreaker to give Yeshiva an 8-1 win.
