Tough Loss for Men’s Soccer to Open 2010 Campaign

NEW YORK, NY – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team traveled to Brooklyn for a contest with Medgar Evers, but came home with a 9-3 loss. Zachary Stern scored twice for the Maccabees, picking up where he left off last season as the team's leading scorer. The Macs have one contest remaining before the holidays; Sunday the 5th against City Tech.

Medgar Evers scored first but Zachary Stern got the Maccabees back in it with a game-tieing corner kick that was bent into the goal from the left side. However, the speed of Medgar Evers proved too hard to handle as they rattled off 5 more goals in the half, and another to open the second and a 7-1 lead.

At the 75th minute, freshman Daniel Benchimol scored his first career goal, and Zach Stern tallied his second a minute later but that Macs could not mount any sort of comeback. Medgar closed the game with two more scores, and got the 9-3 victory.

Joseph Bletchner started in goal for Yeshiva, playing 25 minutes and stopping 3 shots. Mark Rocklin took over for the rest of the game, saving 15 shots. Jon Hagler recorded an assist on Stern's second goal.

The next game for the Maccabees will be on Sunday, September 5th when they host City Tech at 4PM. The game will be at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, NY.
