Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest at Purchase 68-63

NEW YORK, NY - The men's basketball team was on the road Thursday night at Purchase, after the weather forced the teams to postpone their Wednesday night contest. Yeshiva shot an impressive 58% from the field and limited Purchase (13-4, 8-3) to only 36%, but the difference came from the free throw line where Purchase was 19-25 and Yeshiva was just 9-11. The Macs stand at 3-14 (3-9) after the 68-63 loss.

Gil Bash put together another solid night, scoring a team high 17 on 7-13 shooting. Dovie Hoffman added 13 and Chen Biron and Jeremy Pressman each tallied 10. Omer Haim led all players with 6 assists.

Yeshiva never held a lead in the game but played Purchase very close most of the way. The Macs trailed 19-16 with 5:36 remaining after Pressman hit a layup, but that would be the closest Yeshiva would get in the first half. The Panthers scored the next 7 points and eventually went into the half with a 33-21 edge.

Purchase extended their lead to as much as 18 in the early stages of the second half, but the Macs never gave up and fought back to get the game into single digits once again. Simon Brookim got his team to within 8 at the 8:19 mark on a layup, and Bash matched a Purchase three on the next possession to keep it that way. Omer Haim connected on a three point shot to get Yeshiva to within 4 at 60-56 forcing the Panthers to call a timeout and regroup.

With 48 seconds remaining in the game, the Macs were down 6, but a dunk by Jeremy Pressman ignited his team and after a missed Purchase layup, Dovie Hoffman scored to pull the Macs to within 2 with 30 seconds left. However, Yeshiva was unable to get another offensive chance and three free throws from Purchase in the final seconds gave them the 5 point win.

Yeshiva starts a 5-game home stretch with Bard on Tuesday. The game is scheduled for an 8PM tipoff. The Macs will play 6 of the final 8 remaining game on their home court.
