NEW YORK, NY – Avi Varnai recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists in Sunday afternoon's game at New Rochelle. The HVWAC conference win moves Yeshiva to 1-2 in the conference and into position to host the conference's play-in game mid-February.
Leading all scorers was
Shir Fuchs with 23 points.
Naomi Gofine followed with a career best 17 point effort while also recording a career high 5 assists.
Lauren Kempin finished with 9 points and
Mercedes Cohen added 6.
Adar Beitner and
Ayelet Friedman each came off the bench to add 2.
Avigail Varnai added 2 steals to go along with her triple-double.
Yeshiva never trailed in the game after
Mercedes Cohen scored off the tip, although New Rochelle pulled even twice in the early stages of the game. The Macs started to pull away midway through the half, extending their lead to 8 with 9:17 remaining in the half. Yeshiva ended the half on a 12-3 run to take a 32-19 lead into the half.
Out of the half, Yeshiva extended their lead to 20 within the first three minutes, and then to as much as 39 in the final minutes of the game. This marked the second time the Macs have defeated New Rochelle this season, the first coming in December's Medgar Evers Tournament.
Yeshiva will host Bard College on Tuesday at the High School for Girls in Queens, NY. The game will start at 8PM.
