Men’s Soccer team loses heartbreaker to Berkeley (NJ)

David Roumani scores second goal of the season in 2-1 loss to Berkeley
NEW YORK, NY - The Yeshiva men's soccer team (1-10), coming off their first win of the year, faced off against Berkeley College (NJ) on Friday morning.  The Macs scored a goal with five minutes left in the second half turning the momentum in their favor but could not put in the tying goal and lost 2-1.

Yeshiva played one of their better games of the year against Berkeley as the Macs looked to continue their strong play coming off their first win against St Joseph's Brooklyn.  Both teams came out strong in the first half with Yeshiva having to rely on goalie Joseph Blechner to slow the Berkeley attack.  Berkeley took eight of the first nine shots of the match with Blechner saving three of them.  After the Macs survived the furious start by Berkeley, they were able to put on their own offensive attack, attempting three of the next four shots, but could not put one past the Berkeley goalie.  The two teams looked like they were going to go into halftime tied 0-0 but Berkeley's Nuno Santos scored a goal giving Berkeley a 1-0 lead as the half came to a close.

The second half started off strong for Berkeley as Santiago Gonzalez scored a goal in the 47th minute giving his team a 2-0 lead.  The Macs did not give up as they continued to play hard against Berkeley's strong defense.  Yeshiva finally broke through in the 75th minute as David Roumani scored a goal making the score 2-1 and swinging the momentum to Yeshiva.  The Macs gave everything they had in the final 15 minutes of the match but could not score another goal, and lost 2-1.

The Maccabees will be back in action Wednesday, November 2nd as they face off against Sarah Lawrence at 8:00 pm.
