NEW YORK, NY - The men's basketball team was on the road to open their 2011-2012 campaign at CCNY Thursday night, November 17. The Macs led by as many as 14 in the second half, but a furious comeback by the Beavers and a last second three-pointer sent the Macs home with a 47-45 loss. The game was the first this season for both teams.
Gil Bash led the Yeshiva scoring with 12, while
Shlomo Weissberg chipped in 10 coming off the bench.
Dovie Hoffman pulled down a team high 8 rebounds, while
Omer Haim dished out 5 assists. Yeshiva was outrebounded on the offensive glass 13-9, although they led the rebounding margin 32-27 for the game.
The Macs were down by as many as 6 in the first half, but eventually pulled even and took a two point edge into halftime. Yeshiva took control of the game early in the second half, scoring 7 of the first 9 points and pushing their lead to as much as 14 with just under 9 minutes to play. With 8:49 remaining, and a 43-29 edge, the Macs looked poised to cruise to the win but the Beavers had other plans. They held Yeshiva to just two points over the remaining minutes, while scoring 18 of their own. Yeshiva held a 1 point edge with 2:09 remaining, but turnovers prevented either team from scoring down the stretch until CCNY came through with a three pointer with 3 seconds showing to win in dramatic fashion.
Yeshiva is back on the road this weekend, participating in the annual Ramapo College Tournament. Yeshiva will face Ramapo Saturday night at 8PM, with the winner taking on the winner of Gwynedd Mercy/Middlebury on Sunday at 3PM. The consolation game is set for Sunday at 1PM.
