Basketball Overcomes 14 Point Deficit but Unable to Close out Brooklyn at Home

Dovie Hoffman scored 19 and had 9 rebounds against Brooklyn
NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team hosted Brooklyn College in the Macs' final non-conference game of the season. Yeshiva found themselves down by 14 early on, but fought back and held a lead with 6 minutes to play. Brooklyn's offense proved too strong down the stretch and the Bulldogs (14-11) pulled out the 87-80 victory. Yeshiva is now 5-18 on the season.

Dovie Hoffman and Chen Biron each scored 19 points. Gil Bash pitched in with 16 and Simon Brookim came off the bench to score 13. Omer Haim led all players with 11 assists. Hoffman was a rebound shy of a double-double, leading all players with 9 boards.

Brooklyn jumped out early, with a 16-2 run in the first four minutes. The Macs came right back with a run of their own, cutting the lead to 1 only three minutes later, thanks to 7 straight points from Chen Biron. Two free throws by Hoffman gave Yeshiva their first lead at the 9:32 mark, but Brooklyn soon regained the lead and closed the half with a 2 point edge.

Brooklyn worked their lead back to 10 with less than 13 minutes to play, but the Macs refused to go away. Yeshiva scored 12 straight, and led the game for the next three minutes. Simon Brookim's jumper at the 5:50 mark gave Yeshiva a 1 point edge, but they were unable to hold onto it. The Macs pulled to a tie with 2:36 remaining, but the Bulldogs rattled off the next 8 points to put the game out of reach for the Macs.

Yeshiva has two conference games remaining, the next being Saturday night at Maritime College. That game is scheduled for an 8:30 tip. The season's final game, Senior Night, will be Monday the 21st at home against Bard (8PM).
