Box Score NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team was on the road Sunday afternoon at Sage College, taking on the Gators in a Skyline Conference matchup in Albany. In a close game that was tied at the half, the Gators squeezed out a 2-point victory on a shot in the final seconds of the game. The Macs record fell to 2-14 (2-8) after the loss. Sage improved to 9-9 (5-7).
Omer Haim led the starters with 12 points, while
Gil Bash,
Shlomo Weissberg, and
Benjamin Ritholtz each came off the bench and had 12 points. Weissberg led the team with 9 rebounds, while Haim led with 4 assists.
Chen Biron chipped in with 10 points as the only other scorer in double figures. As a team, the Macs shot 45% from the field, and were 17-22 from the free throw line. Yeshiva out-rebounded Sage 37-29.
Yeshiva did not hold a lead in the first half, finding themselves down by as much as 10 points midway through the half. Over the final 2:26 of the half, the Macs scored the final 7 points to pull even going into the locker room. It was the first tie since the opening tip.
Sage began the second half much like the first, opening up a large lead quickly. However, they were unable to hold that edge as Yeshiva raced back to take their first lead of the game at the 10:50 mark.
Gil Bash sparked a late second half run that gave Yeshiva a 6 point lead with just over 2 minutes to play, but the Gators fought back to tie the game at 72 with 23 seconds remaining.
After grabbing a rebound off a missed free throw attempt, the Macs called a timeout with 13 seconds showing to diagram a play. Unfortunately, the Macs turned the ball over before getting a shot off but the Gators missed the ensuing layup. However, with less than 2 seconds showing, Sage grabbed the offensive rebound and put it in to take the 2 point lead. A last second desperation heave was off the mark as Yeshiva fell 74-72.
The Macs are back at home on Tuesday night, for a matchup with NYU-Poly at 8PM. Yeshiva defeated NYU-Poly earlier in the season 73-53 on the road.
