Weissberg scored 19 against Maritime
Box Score

NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team hosted Maritime College Saturday night, and came out with a hard fought 67-62 victory to improve to 4-15 (4-9) on the season.  Maritime College fell to 2-19 (2-12) on the season.

Shlomo Weissberg led the Maccabees with 19 points in 21 minutes off the bench.  He also had a team high 8 rebounds and was a near perfect (8-9) from the field.  Gil Bash followed with 16 points and 7 boards, while also dishing out 4 assists.  Dovie Hoffman finished with 13 points capping a week that averaged a double-double 20 points and 11 rebounds.  Omer Haim finished with a team high 10 assists.

Yeshiva started slow, finding themselves down early 14-6.  However, 8 straight points quickly tied the game and gave Yeshiva the momentum they needed to push their lead to 5 with less than 6 minutes to play.  Once the teams settled down, the game went back and forth, with the half's 5th tie coming at the 35 second mark, 27-27.  A free throw by Hoffman after getting fouled on a drive to the hoop, gave Yeshiva a 28-27 halftime lead.

Maritime erased the halftime deficit and found themselves up by 3 at the 16:16 mark, but Yeshiva went on a 16-3 run over the next 5 minutes to push their lead to 10, the largest of the night for either team.  Down by 9 with less than 5 minutes to play, Maritime scored 8 straight to put the pressure back on the Macs with a minute forty to play.  Free throws down the stretch, and a defense that forced three missed shots and allowed only 4 points the rest of the way,  was the reason Yeshiva got the 67-62 win.

The Macs are on the road at Farmingdale for their next game, scheduled for Tuesday the 7th at 8PM.
