Box Score NEW YORK, NY – The men's basketball team hosted Maritime College Saturday night, and came out with a hard fought 67-62 victory to improve to 4-15 (4-9) on the season. Maritime College fell to 2-19 (2-12) on the season.
Shlomo Weissberg led the Maccabees with 19 points in 21 minutes off the bench. He also had a team high 8 rebounds and was a near perfect (8-9) from the field.
Gil Bash followed with 16 points and 7 boards, while also dishing out 4 assists.
Dovie Hoffman finished with 13 points capping a week that averaged a double-double 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Omer Haim finished with a team high 10 assists.
Yeshiva started slow, finding themselves down early 14-6. However, 8 straight points quickly tied the game and gave Yeshiva the momentum they needed to push their lead to 5 with less than 6 minutes to play. Once the teams settled down, the game went back and forth, with the half's 5
th tie coming at the 35 second mark, 27-27. A free throw by Hoffman after getting fouled on a drive to the hoop, gave Yeshiva a 28-27 halftime lead.
Maritime erased the halftime deficit and found themselves up by 3 at the 16:16 mark, but Yeshiva went on a 16-3 run over the next 5 minutes to push their lead to 10, the largest of the night for either team. Down by 9 with less than 5 minutes to play, Maritime scored 8 straight to put the pressure back on the Macs with a minute forty to play. Free throws down the stretch, and a defense that forced three missed shots and allowed only 4 points the rest of the way, was the reason Yeshiva got the 67-62 win.
The Macs are on the road at Farmingdale for their next game, scheduled for Tuesday the 7
th at 8PM.
