Box Score BROOKLYN - Junior forward
Daniel Benchimol's (Miami, Fla.) 12th-minute kick from the penalty spot put the Yeshiva University men's soccer team in front by a 1-0 count in its season opener Tuesday night at Aviator Field against Skyline Conference opponent, NYU-Polytechnic. From there, the host Jays scored three of the games remaining tallies in the second half en route to a 4-1 triumph over the visiting Maccabees.
Benchimol slotted home his first goal of the season early on, before NYU-Poly equalized five minutes later - which is how the score would stay until halftime.
In the second half, the Jays' Mamadou Dianko netted markers in the 50th and 74th minutes, before the hosts added an insurance goal in the 78th minute to account for the final score.
Senior keeper
Joseph Blechner (Brookline, Mass.) made eight saves in 74 minutes of work for the Macs, while sophomore netminder
Daniel Turk (Thornhill, Ont.) turned aside three NYU-Poly efforts in closing out the match.
Head coach Tony Elmore's Yeshiva side is back in Skyline Conference action Sunday afternoon (Sept. 9), when it plays host to The Sage Colleges in a 4 p.m. kickoff at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, N.Y.
