MONTCLAIR, N.J.— The Yeshiva men's soccer team was defeated by nationally renowned Montclair State University, 6-0, at MSU Soccer Park on Friday afternoon.
The host Red Hawks, ranked No. 7 in the nation in the latest D3soccer.com poll, netted six goals in the first half to lead by a half dozen at the break. Yeshiva and Montclair State played to a scoreless tie through the first seventeen and a half minutes before the Red Hawks scored their first goal.
The Maccabees, playing without four members of their starting lineup, held their own with the Red Hawks during the early stages of the contest.
Montclair State's Dan Mendoza scored the first three goals of the game. His first came at 17:30, before netting another at 19:51. He completed the hat-trick at 22:56 to give the home team a 3-0 lead en route to the 6-0 score.
Joseph Blechner started in goal and made three first half, some of which according to head coach, Shua Pransky, were brilliant, including a diving stop on one from point blank and another a heel kick save that prevented a shot in the corner.
Yeshiva is back in action on Sunday for a home contest against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 12 noon at Reinhardt Field on the Maritime campus.
