THROGGS NECK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's soccer team battled with the College of Mount Saint Vincent (CMSV) for ninety minutes in a hotly contested Skyline Conference battle, but the Maccabees fell on the short end of a 2-1 decision in a contest held Reinhardt Field on the campus of Maritime College on Sunday.
The visiting Dolphins scored a goal in the middle of the first half and another early in the second to lead 2-0. Both CMSV goals were scored by Jonathan Barajas. The first one came at the 30:07 mark of the first half, while the other was netted just two minutes and ten seconds into the second half.
The Maccbees cut the score in half on a penalty kick by
Itamar Ben David with 14:50 to go, springing the Maccabees to life. But neither team failed to record a shot after that, as the visitors held on.
Both teams had great scoring chances early in the contest, but neither could find the mesh during the early portion of the first half. CMSV had one of its shots hit off the lower end of the crossbar which would have made the score 1-0.
The Dolphins took control of the contest early in the second half. After taking a 2-0 lead, CMSV came within an eyelash of going up three, but a point blank shot, drifted just a bit wide.
Yeshiva, who held CMSV without a shot for the final 27:17, controlled the latter stages of the game, but could not find the equalizer.
The overall shots were practically even as CMSV held a 16-14 edge on attempts.
Joseph Blechner made four saves in net for the Maccabees.
Yeshiva is back in action for its final Skyline match-up of the season at Maritime College at 8 p.m.
