Men's Soccer Loses High Scoring Game to Maritime

Box Score

THROGGS NECK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's soccer team lost a high scoring affair on the road Tuesday evening and lost in overtime as the Maccabees were defeated by Maritime College 5-4 at Reinhart Field.

The host Privateers scored the golden goal six minutes and forty six seconds into the extra session.

Despite the loss, freshman sensation, Itamar Ben David netted his second hat-trick of the week. After scoring three against Vaughn College last Wednesday, the Tel-Aviv native blasted three more in this contest.  Daniel Benchimol scored the Maccabees other goal.

The game's scoring barrage began in the opening minutes of the contest with a pair of early strikes by Maritime. The Privateers scored 3:35 into the contest to take a 1-0 lead on a goal by David Sparozic. Maritime scored again less than two minutes later after a goal by Andrew Barry at the 5:30 mark.

The game was far from over, and the Maccabees netted the next two goals to even the score. The first goal came just twenty-four seconds after Maritime went up 2-0 when Ben David scored his first of three on the evening. Then midway through the first half, a Benchimol goal evened the score.

The tie lasted all but thirty-six seconds as Maritime's Kieran Donnelly put one in at 22:54. But Yeshiva tied the game before halftime on another Ben David goal at 38:24 via a penalty kick.

In the second half, the Privateers took another lead when a goal by Michael Wood at 51:39 made the score 4-3. Ben David then completed his hat-trick when he scored at 76:00 to tie the score and send the contest into overtime before the Privateers won it.

Maritime held a 22-9 advantage on shots and had 13 corner kick attempts compared to two by the Maccabees.

Joseph Blechner started in goal for Yeshiva and made seven saves. He played the first 73:49 of the contest, before giving way to Moishi Eisenmann who played the last 22:57 in net.

Yeshiva is back in action on Thursday for a contest against Sarah Lawrence College at Fairleigh Dickinson University Soccer Field at 8:30 p.m. The contest will feature a Macs Madness promotional event, including prizes and a free fan bus leaving from the Wilf Campus.
