NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team was defeated in a pair of games on Sunday afternoon as the Maccabees lost 3-0 (9-25, 19-25, 22-25) to the College at Old Westbury (OW), before falling 3-1 to Farmingdale State (11-25, 9-25, 27-25, 19-25) in a Skyline Conference tri-match at Baruch College.
In both matches, the Maccabees improved as the games went on. Yeshiva's momentum was slow to develop in the first set of both contests. Against OW, the Maccabees fell behind 11-1, en route to trailing from start to finish. Yeshiva had just three kills in the opening set and managed just 19 total attack attempts. In the match against Farmingdale State, Yeshiva fell behind 11-3 and never got on track. The Maccabees mustered just one kill in the first set, while Farmingdale had 12 (no errors) on 28 attempts for a .429 attack percentage.
In the second set against OW, Yeshiva and the Panthers were tied 11 times, while the match saw six lead changes. Yeshiva led 16-14, before OW rallied off 11 of the last 14 points to pull away in the end. In the third set, Yeshiva took the match right to OW, never trailing by more than four points the entire set. The Maccabees had a season-high 14 kills in the third set (eight errors) on 40 attempts for a season best .150 attack percentage.
The Maccabees were led by Marjarie Rasinovsky and
Kerrin Ast with six kills each, while
Sarit Zukowsky had five kills (no errors) for a .227 attack percentage to go along with 11 digs.
Emily Rohan had 19 assists for Yeshiva.
OW was led by Kimberly Catania with 15 kills, 13 assists and four service aces, while Jocelyn Small added 10 kills and 13 digs.
Against Farmingdale State, after a quick first set, the Rams put the Maccabees away in the second as well with a 25-9 score. In that set, Yeshiva had two kills (11 errors) on 21 attack attempts. But in the third, the Maccabees roared back and won. Yeshiva recorded 10 kills for its first win of a set on the young season. The Maccabees were down 16-10 in the third before Yeshiva fired back by scoring five in a row to pull to within one. Yeshiva never took the lead until grabbing a 25-24 lead en route to the third set win. Yeshiva then went toe-to-toe with Farmingdale State in the fourth set before falling by just a few.
The Maccabees were led by Rasinovsky, Zukowsky and
Shira Genauer with three kills each. Genauer added 14 digs in the contest.
Farmingdale State was led by Maia Cadle-Hinton with 10 kills.
