TEANECK, N.J.— The Yeshiva men's soccer team defeated Sarah Lawrence College 6-0 on Thursday evening at the Fairleigh Dickinson University Soccer Complex.
The host Maccabees were in command from the outset, firing shot after shot at the Gryphons goalkeeper, and maintaining possession in the Sarah Lawrence end of the field for most of the match.
Despite the barrage of shots, the teams were deadlocked until the seventeenth minute when
Ronan Weinberg-Waks found the back of the goal after receiving a
Leon Aboudi corner kick for the first goal of the game. Then in the thirty-fifth minute Aboudi scored after receiving a pass from
Itamar Ben David.
Yeshiva was up 2-0 at halftime, but if could have been more, as Sarah Lawrence goalkeeper, Elliot Warkus, made several great saves in the first half, including saving a Yeshiva penalty kick and a breakaway.
In the second half, the Maccabees strength and skill wore down the Gryphons as Yeshiva scored four goals in the final stanza to pull away late.
Ben David scored a pair of goals in the second half, while
Daniel Benchimol and
Rafi Friedman added one each for Yeshiva.
The Maccabees held a 40-5 advantage on shots in the contest, including 24-1 in the first half and 16-4 in the second.
Yeshiva returns to action on Sunday for senior day against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 6 p.m. at FDU.
