NEWARK, N.J.— The Yeshiva men's soccer team upped its current win streak to three straight with another win on Sunday as the Maccabees earned a 2-1 overtime win against Berkeley College (NJ).
The win ups Yeshiva to 5-12-0 overall this season, and the Maccabees' three match win streak is the first ever such in program history.
Yeshiva scored quickly in the extra session, netting the golden goal 1:21 into overtime to secure the victory.
Daniel Benchimol took a cross from left top of box to nail the goal, the twentieth of his career.
Itamar Ben David earned the assist on the strike.
The game winning goal by Benchimol from Ben David was a returned favor of sorts as Yeshiva's other goal, which came in the second half at the 58:12 mark was a strike by Ben David off a pass from Benchimol to make the score 1-0.
Berkeley tied the score late in the second half when Jato Oluwatoby found the net at 86:08 to deny the Maccabees a third straight shutout.
But shortly after regulation ended, Benchimol, via the first shot taken in overtime, ended the game.
Berkeley held a 14-10 advantage on shots.
Doron David started the match and made four first half saves, while
Moishi Eisenmann played goal during the second half and overtime and made two saves.
Yeshiva wraps up its 2013 season with a contest against the City College of New York on Wednesday at 9 p.m. on Randall's Island.
