2013-14 Team Update, Victory over University of Virginia Highlight of the Season So Far

2013-14 Men's Fencing Statistics

The Yeshiva University men's fencing has gotten underway, and the Maccabees have competed against elite competition after battling at two invitationals, including the Vassar College Invitational on Nov. 10 and the Johns Hopkins Invitational on Nov. 24.

After a tough season last year that saw the Maccabees go without a win, Yeshiva has already surpassed that this year. The Maccabees earned a 15-12 victory over the University of Virginia during the Johns Hopkins Invitational, including winning six of nine bouts during the epee and saber sword battles.

Despite a solo overall team win to date, Yeshiva has had several close battles losing by just a few points, and the Maccabees outscored opponents in saber three other times in addition to the overall win against Univ. of Virginia. Yeshiva beat in-city rival Hunter College 6-3 in saber at the Vassar College Invitational and 5-4 against Haverford College at the same meet. The Maccabees also outscored the College of William and Mary 5-4 at the Johns Hopkins Invitational in saber

So far, saber teammates Yitzchok Frankel and Benjamin Rozenshteyn have a team co-high 13 wins.  In epee Mark Rosenberg has a team-high nine wins, while in foil, Sam Larson has a team-high seven wins.

The men's fencing team is off from competition until February. When the Maccabees return to action they will compete at the Mid Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA) Group B Round Robin. MACFA, which has three groups – A, B and C- has Yeshiva in group B, along with the United States Military Academy, Hunter College, Stevens Institute of Technology and New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Please check back on Friday for an update on women's fencing
