Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Junior low-post player,
Shlomo Weissberg (Skokie, Ill.) registered his fifth double-double in his last six outings with a 21-point, 19-rebound effort Thursday night at Jacobs Center, as visiting Yeshiva University locked up a berth in the upcoming six-team, Skyline Conference Championships with a 74-55 conference victory at host NYU-Poly.
YU (10-14, 6-11 Skyline) will either be the fifth or sixth seed in the tournament, pending results of Saturday night's regular-season finales across the conference (including its 8:30 p.m. tip-off at Maritime), and will play on the road in first-round action Feb. 19 at an opponent to be determined. This will mark the Maccabees' first appearance in the Skyline Conference playoffs since the 2009-10 campaign.
Weissberg's 19 caroms and two blocked shots led all players, while seniors
Gil Bash (Tel Aviv, Israel) and
Dovie Hoffman (Tarzana, Calif.) contributed 15 points apiece to the victorious cause. Junior post presence
Yoni Eckmann (Wynnewood, Pa.) added nine points off the bench for the Macs.
Yeshiva shot 31 free throws in the final seven minutes of the contest, and its 35-for-58 effort on the night helped keep the host Blue Jays (7-17, 3-14 Skyline), who shot 12-for-26 at the charity stripe, at bay.
YU never trailed in the contest, and got up by as many 10 points in the first half before 31-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Yeshiva led by as many as 21 with just over five minutes on the clock, and while the Blue Jays pulled to within a 67-55 margin with 1:23 to go after two free throws by game-high scorer Jamel Gist (22 pts.), the visitors scored the final seven points of the contest to clinch their trip to the conference tourney.
