NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Grit, toughness and determination led the Yeshiva University men's basketball team back from an 11-point deficit late in the second half Tuesday night at the Kaplan Center, as the Maccabees took a one-point lead with 2:36 to go in their Skyline Conference Championship first-round contest at third-seeded Mount Saint Mary College. However, the host Knights went back in front for good with 59.5 seconds remaining, and eliminated sixth-seeded YU by a 52-44 margin.

Yeshiva (11-15) made its first appearance in the conference tournament since 2010, and utilized a 5-for-7 display from 3-point range in the second half to make its push late in the contest. Senior Dovie Hoffman (Tarzana, Calif.; team-high 12 pts.), who finishes 17th on the Macs' all-time scoring list with 1,195 points in his illustrious four-year career, hit the go-ahead trifecta with 2:36 showing to push his side in front at 42-41. The 3-ball capped a 14-2 run over a 5:45 stretch for the visitors, which included five points from senior Gil Bash (Tel Aviv, Israel; nine points, game-high five assists), two treys from Hoffman and a clutch long-distance dial-up from junior guard Eitan Selevan (Teaneck, N.J.).

Mount Saint Mary (19-7), winners of 12 of its last 13 contests and off to the semifinals Thursday night at second-seeded Purchase, received a bucket on the low blocks from Joe Henain 13 seconds after Hoffman's triple to put the Knights back in front. MSMC later received one-of-two free throws from Donte Howell (game-high 15 pts.) with 1:49 to go, before YU junior big man, Shlomo Weissberg (Skokie, Ill.; nine pts., game-high 10 reb.) laid in the tying bucket (44-44) on the right block off a feed from Bash with 88 seconds to go.

From there, the Knights got a driving lay-in from Howell with 59.5 seconds left to go in front by a 46-44 count. "The Mount" then held Yeshiva scoreless for the rest of the contest, and used a 6-for-7 effort at the free-throw line to close things out.

Bash ends his career with 1,088 career points, ranking 23rd among YU men's basketball players all-time. Hoffman, point guard David Schmelzer (Columbus, Ohio; eight pts., four asst.), forward Arman Davtian (Haifa, Israel) and Bash all saw their collegiate basketball careers come to a close in the contest.
