Box Score NEW YORK - Senior
Gil Bash (Tel Aviv, Israel) led four Yeshiva University men's basketball players in double-figure scoring with 26 points Monday night at the Max Stern Athletic Center, and now sits one point shy of 1,000 for his career after the Maccabees lost a 91-86 decision in Skyline Conference play to NYU-Polytechnic.
If Bash is able to reach the four-figure milestone for his career, he would be the 26th player in YU men's basketball history to reach the feat -- and the second to do so this season. His classmate,
Dovie Hoffman (Tarzana, Calif.; 16 pts., 6-for-12 FG) reached the feat Dec. 18 at Lehman College. In addition to the two seniors, junior
Benjy Ritholtz (W. Hempstead, N.Y.; 17 pts., 8-for-17 FG) and freshman
Yosef Rosenthal (W. Hempstead, N.Y.; career-best 14 points off the bench, 5-for-6 FG, 2-for-3 3FG) also scored in double digits for Yeshiva, which shot .507 from the floor in the contest. Junior big man
Shlomo Weissberg (Skokie, Ill.) continues to clean up the glass, as eight of his game-high-tying 10 boards were on the offensive end. He now has double-digit caroms in the last three contests, and seven on the 2012-13 campaign.
The visiting Blue Jays, who trailed at the half by a 42-35 margin, were buoyed by a .545 field-goal percentage on the evening (17-for-26, .654 in second half), as well as a 10-for-15 display from beyond the arc. NYU-Poly also used efficiency on converting turnovers into points, registering 24 points off just 13 Macs miscues.
Head coach Dr. Jonathan Halpert's Maccabees now sit at 5-9 in Skyline Conference action, with four league games left to play in the regular season. They are tied for fifth place with The Sage Colleges, who will play host to YU at the Kahl Center in Albany, N.Y., for an 8 p.m. tip-off at the Kahl Center on Wednesday night (Feb. 6). The two teams sit one game ahead of both St. Joseph's-Long Island (4-10) and Maritime (3-10) in the loss column, and the top-six teams in the regular-season standings will advance to the conference tournament. Though seeding has not been determined, the top-four schools in the standings (in order: Old Westbury, Farmingdale St., Mount Saint Mary and Purchase) have all clinched berths in the tourney.
