Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime to Lehman

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker in overtime, 4-3, in the 2013 season opener at Lehman College on Friday afternoon.

Despite controlling most of the game, Yeshiva lost in the 4th minute into Extra Time.  Lehman's golden goal was the only time they had the lead in the contest. The Maccabees had led 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 before eventually falling 4-3.

Yeshiva scored the first goal of the game 7:56 into the contest on a goal by Daniel Benchimol from a beautiful through ball from Rafi Friedman. The lead lasted just under fifteen minutes when Lehman tied the game at 22:44 with a goal by Aleh Kazak. The Maccabees went ahead 2-1 when Joshua Cohen found the net off a Lehman turnover at 31:53. Cohen made a smart weak-side trailing run and volleyed in a shot off a rebound to regain the lead.  The Lightning struck again and tied the score at 2-2 at 41:25 on a goal by Emmanuel Adesanlu. The score was 2-2 at halftime.

Yeshiva retook the lead early in the second half when Itamar Ben David scored in the 48th minute. Ben David's shot was a strong screamer from outside the box into the lower left side corner.  With the score 3-2, Yeshiva had a chance to add to the lead but had the crossbar deny them the two score advantage.  Then the Lightning tied the score for the third time on Adesanlu's second goal of the game at 65:11 before the contest went into overtime.

Lehman held an 18-10 advantage on shots. Ben David led Yeshiva with six shots.

Yeshiva is back in action on Sunday for a game at Western Connecticut State at 1 p.m.
