Box Score DANBURY, Conn.— The Yeshiva University men's soccer team was defeated by Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. The loss moves the Maccabees to 0-2 on the season, while WCSU improves to 1-0 with its season opening win.
Yeshiva went into the game missing seven players off their roster, mainly due to injuries. One of the missing was starting goalkeeper, Joey Blechner.
Doron David, last year's Center Back, made his first career appearance between the sticks.
WCSU led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Paul Denis with just over five minutes gone by in the contest. Yeshiva played a smart game and created a couple of chance but ultimately went into the half still down 1-0. In the second half, two of the Maccabee's starting midfielders came off due to injury and eventually the numbers, or lack there of, caught up with them. Colonials' Phil Dagostino netted a second half hat-trick to put WCSU ahead 4-0 with under twenty minutes to play, Then David Quenah scored late in the eighty-first minute to put the hosts ahead 5-0.
The Maccabees outshot the Colonials 9-5 in the first half, but due to WCSU's strong second half they outshot Yeshiva 17-11 in the contest.
Four players recorded two shots each for the Maccabees, including
Ben Barel,
Jack Sztrigler,
Itamar Ben David and
Daniel Benchimol.
Doron David played goalkeeper and made nine saves in the game.
