Men's Basketball Uses Balanced Scoring and Great Ball Distribution in Win over NYU Poly

Box Score

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's basketball shot the ball exceptionally well and had five players score in double figures as the Maccabees picked up their second straight conference win in a 69-66 victory over Polytechnic University of New York University (NYU Poly) Monday evening.

Yeshiva (6-8, 4-5 Skyline) was led by Yisrael Feld with 16 points, followed by Benjy Ritholtz with 14. Shlomo Weissberg added 12, while Yosef Rosenthal netted 11 off the bench. Shelby Rosenberg had 10 to round out the balanced attack. The Maccabees shot 57.4 percent (27-for-47) from the floor, including 61.9 percent (13-for-21) in the first half and 53.8 percent (14-for-26) in the second half.

Yeshiva spread the ball around well on offense leading to open looks at the basket throughout the game, en route to 23 assists on 27 made field goals by the Maccabees. Eytan Potash led Yeshiva with six assists, while Weissberg and Ritholtz had four each.

NYU Poly (2-15, 0-10 Skyline) was led by Jethro Auguste with 22 points, followed by Brendan Gallagher with 21. Isaac Neaves had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. For the game, the Blue Jays shot 39.3 percent (22-for-56) from the floor, including 61.9 percent (13-for-21) in the second half. In the first half, NYU Poly connected on just 25.7 percent (9-for-35) from the floor.

Despite the hot shooting by the Maccabees and cold shooting by the Blue Jays in the first half, Yeshiva had just a 29-27 lead at halftime as NYU Poly held a 23-13 first half rebounding edge to keep the game close.

The game remained close the rest of the way as the largest lead of the game by either team was a 10 point Yeshiva lead with 8:47 to go in the second half when the Maccabees were up 55-45.

NYU Poly had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but the last second shot attempt was blocked as the Maccabees preserved the win.

Yeshiva is back in action on Thursday for a game at Brooklyn College at 8 p.m.
