Women's Basketball Plays Close First Half, Runs out of Gas in the Second Half against Purchase

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva women's basketball team was defeated by Purchase College 84-44 in a contest played at Baruch College's ARC Arena Monday evening.
 
The Maccabees (6-12) were led by Rebecca Yoshor and Stephanie Greenberg with 15 points each. Yoshor added 12 rebounds for the Maccabees, while Greenberg recorded six steals. Naomi Gofine grabbed 11 rebounds for the Maccabees.
 
Purchase (14-9) was led by Lineker St. Hilaire who had a triple double including 17 points, 10 rebounds and 13 steals. She also handed out four assists. Meanwhile Jazmin Garcia scored a game-high 29 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had six steals along with four assists.
 
The game was close in the first half, and the first twenty minutes saw seven lead changes and eight ties. Yeshiva led by as much as six after opening the game on a 6-0 run. Purchase led by eight in the latter stages of the stanza, and the Panthers were up 32-24 with 2:23 remaining. Purchase College led 34-31 at halftime.
 
In the second half, Purchase put on a full court press that Yeshiva never found an answer for. The Panthers opened the half on a 14-0 run the first five minutes in, and Purchase continued to increase the lead the rest of the way.
 
Yeshiva committed 43 turnovers compared to 17 for Purchase, and the Panthers outscored the Maccabees 55-9 on points off turnovers. Purchase held a 62-20 advantage on points in the paint, and 28-0 on fast break points.
 
Yeshiva held a 48-47 rebounding edge.
 
Yeshiva finishes up its 2013-14 season with a game at NYU Poly, Tuesday at 8 p.m.
