Women's Tennis Earns Victory over Mt. St. Mary's in 2014 Skyline Opener

QUEENS, N.Y.— The Yeshiva women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win over Mt. St. Mary's College (MSMC) in the Maccabees' Skyline Conference opener on Sunday afternoon at the Queens College Tennis Center.
 
The win was the first of the season for Yeshiva as the Maccabees improved to 1-1 (1-0 Skyline) on the season, while MSMC is now 0-1 (0-1 Skyline).
 
Singles matches were played first and Yeshiva picked up the five wins it needed to secure the team win before the doubles matches got underway. In singles play, at No. 1, Shani Hava beat Breanna Scott 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 2 singles position, Jannah Eichenbaum was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over MSMC's Rebecca Tortora. At No. 3, Jenny Tepler won 6-2, 6-1 over Mallory Menneci of MSMC. At No. 5 singles, it was Lindsay Frucher earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Katie Conroy, while at No. 6, Tova Hirt beat MSMC's Ellen Hendricks 6-3, 6-1. MSMC's lone win was at No. 4 as Isabella Tartaglione of MSMC was a winner over Galila Shapiro 7-6, 6-2.
 
In doubles play, at the No. 1 spot, Hava and Eichenbaum beat Scott and Conroy 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, it was Tepler and Hirt beating Menneci and Tortora 8-4, while at No. 3, Shapiro and Frucher won 8-3 over Tartaglione and Hendricks.
 
In an exhibition doubles match, Anita Levy and Dena Rubanowitz won 8-1 over MSMC's Sarah Muller and Kristen Weindorf.
 
Yeshiva is back in action on Tuesday for a match at St. Joseph's College of Long Island at 6 p.m.
