Box Score New York, N.Y.- The Yeshiva University's women's basketball team lost a tough contest to the Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy 73-51 in Sunday's game held at the City College of New York. This was the Maccabees first home game of the 2015-16 season.
Yeshiva was led by Julia Owen with a total of 18 points. Owen also recorded 5 rebounds as well as a couple steals and a block. Co-captain Ester Kerzner returned from injury to compete in her first game of the season scoring 12 points for team, capitalizing on 8 free throws, and earning 4 rebounds. Co-captain Rachel Mirsky added 11 points and 2 steals for the team. Tess Blaustein led the team in rebounds with a total of 11.
Rochelle Whitton and Sarah Pacheco led the Panthers of Albany Pharmacy with 14 points each. Dannie Griffen recorded 11 points and 9 rebounds while Allie Mitchell had 9 points.
The Maccabees started the game leading the Panthers within the first few minutes. Although Albany Pharmacy gained the lead shortly afterward Yeshiva remained within four points or less after both the first and second quarters. However, in the third quarter the Panthers came out on top outscoring the Maccabees 25-8. Although Yeshiva outscored Albany Pharmacy in the fourth quarter it was not enough to pull ahead and take the lead.
The Maccabees are back in action on Tuesday at Baruch College for an 8pm tip off against former Skyline Conference champion the College of Mount Saint Vincent. This contest will be the Skyline Conference opener and Yeshiva's first in the conference.
