Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team picked up its second Skyline win in a row, knocking off SUNY Purchase by a score of 75-59, on Sunday afternoon. The Maccabees advance their record to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Skyline play, while Purchase drops to 3-5 and 1-2 in conference contests.
Senior forward
Shelby Rosenberg produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Junior forward
Michael Berg scored a game-high 18 points with five assists and two blocks.
Yeshiva held a narrow 30-27 lead with 16:15 remaining in regulation time. The Maccabees would pull away, thanks to a 10-4 run in a span of 2:45 to extend the lead to 40-31, with 12:16 left to play. Highlighted in that run were two layups made by freshman forward
Michael Hayon.
Later in the stanza, senior forward
Joseph Ammar connected from beyond the arc to put the Maccabees up by double-digits, with 10:27 left. Purchase managed to cut the lead to just five, with less than seven minutes remaining, but a two-point basket by Berg extended the visiting team's lead to 50-43. That would begin a 7-0 run by Yeshiva, capped off by a three-point field goal from freshman guard
Justin Hod, to extend the advantage to 55-43, and put the game out of reach for Purchase with 5:37 remaining. The Maccabees clinched their second consecutive conference victory, by a score of 75-59.
In the first half, Yeshiva scored seven of the game's first nine points to set the tone. Later in the half, senior guard
Shaje Weiss successfully converted a layup to put Yeshiva up 21-8. The Panthers made a run to pull within six, at 28-22, going into the intermission. Yeshiva outscored Purchase by double-digits in the second half to clinch the key conference victory.
The Maccabees will host Sarah Lawrence College, in another Skyline contest, on Thursday beginning at 9:00 p.m. The game will take place at Baruch College.
