EDGEWATER, N.J.— Back to the Skyline Conference championship they go! The Yeshiva men's tennis team earned a 5-1 win over No. 4 seed Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) in the semifinal round of the 2015 Skyline Conference men's tennis championship. As a result, the men's tennis team, for the second year in a row, will vie for the conference championship with a trip to the NCAA Division III tournament up for grabs.
Yeshiva, now 12-3, will play at 3 p.m. on Sunday against the winner of the other semifinal round match between No. 2 seed Purchase College and No. 3 seed Farmingdale State. Their match tonight was postponed due to rain and will instead square off on Thursday.
During Wednesday's win, the Maccabees got wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles to head into singles with a 2-1 lead. At No. 2 doubles,
Charles Saka and
Steven Jemal strolled to an 8-2 win, while at No. 3 doubles it was
Dmitri Lebedyev and
Eitan Rudansky earning an 8-0 win. At No. 1 doubles,
David Papis Elon and
Adam Wannon were edged 9-8.
In singles play, the Maccabees earned wins at No's 1, 3 and 5, all of which were 6-0, 6-0, to earn five team points and win the contest. At No. 1, Papis Elon was victorious to remain undefeated this season, while at No. 3, it was Jemal who shutout his opponent. At No. 5 singles, Saka won 6-0, 6-0.
Unfinished matches had Yeshiva in front at the time. Lebedyev was ahead 6-1, 5-0 at No. 2, while at No. 4, Wannon was winning 6-2, 1-0. At No. 6 singles,
Meir Burk was in front 6-0, 5-1.
