Amar’s PK lifts Men’s Soccer to best-ever Skyline start

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- Senior Daniel Amar scored the game-winner off a penalty kick in the 83rd minute as the Yeshiva University men's soccer team won 2-1 at SUNY College at Old Westbury on Friday afternoon in Skyline Conference action.
 
The Panthers of Old Westbury struck first, when sophomore Dominick Guidice finished off a cross in the 35th minute to put the hosts up 1-0. That remained the score going into halftime.
 
The Maccabees scored the equalizer in the 57th minute, as junior Itamar Ben David recovered a loose ball in the box and headed it in. It was Ben David's third goal of the season.
 
With 7:23 remaining in the game, the match seemed headed for overtime when a foul was called on the Panthers in the box. Amar scored his fourth goal of the year off the free chance, as Yeshiva took the lead. Old Westbury had two shots in the closing minutes, with one being blocked and the other resulting in a save by Maccabee sophomore keeper Maor Feinstein.
 
Feinstein finished with seven saves on the day for his third win of the season.  
 
Yeshiva is off to a 2-0 start in the Skyline Conference for the first time since they joined the league in 2007. They are 3-3 overall thus far this season. It was the conference opener for Old Westbury, who have fallen to 0-6 thus far this year.
 
The Maccabees will be back on the field on Sunday when they play host to the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 8:00 p.m.
