NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team opens up the 2016-17 season at the City College of New York on Tuesday evening. The Maccabees will look to build momentum from last season where they went 15-12 overall (12-8, Skyline) on their way to hosting and winning their first home playoff game since the 2001-02 season.
Yeshiva has a balance of veteran and rookie players as the Blue and White have nine returning players and seven newcomers. Leading the way for YU will be senior guard
Michael Berg, who scored in double figures seven times last season. Sophomore guard
Judah Cohen will look to continue his consistent shooting prowess as he shot .457 from the field and .429 from beyond the arc in his first year in 2015-16. Sophomore forwards
Michael Hayon and
Tal Gweta, as well as sophomore guard
Ariel Sokol, will also look to build from their successful rookie seasons. Senior forwards
Dean Pienica and
Eli Mamann will provide veteran leadership for the Maccabees.
Freshman
Tyler Hod will join his two older brothers,
Justin Hod and
Jordan Hod, in the backcourt. Other Yeshiva first year players who will be looking to make an impact are guards
Nicolas Leibovich,
Daniel Poleyeff, and
Simcha Halpert, as well as forwards
Bar Alluf,
Kevin Bokor, and
Daniel Katz.
